OK, I done told her

May 14, 2009 at 10:47 pm (Dating and Girls)

OK, I finally remembered to tell her about the blog tonight.

And warned her that generally it’s pretty negative and really just a place for me to vent and whine when I need to so I can spout it out here instead of making her listen to the full diatribe.

And really, to be flatly honest, pretty damned boring most of the time.

But, it’s here, and she should know about it.

Hi, LabGirl. I loves you πŸ˜€

Nearing 1 year with LabGirl

Holy crap did that go by fast.

I wonder if I should tell her about the blog yet? πŸ˜›

Yeah, probably when there’s a good time in the next couple of weeks to reveal that I’ve been hiding a not-all-that-scandalous secret from her πŸ˜‰

Should probably do it before the upcoming holiday weekend anyway, as I’m sure if I don’t mention it to her one of my drunk friends probably will…. πŸ˜›

OMG SWINE FLU!!!!!1!!!!

May 1, 2009 at 7:23 pm (Uncategorized)

Yeah, so yesterday my company decided to join the mass hysteria and sent out links on swine flu education, put bottles of hand sanitizer next to every sink (most of which already had hand soap, so I’m not sure what that’s about), posted signs on how to use said hand sanitizer, and also posted signs by every sink about how to wash your hands. Because it’s, you know, complicated.

Although now that I think about it I’ve been grossed out by enough guys not washing their hands after doing their business that maybe it is for some people.

Let me pass on a few interesting tidbits about the swine flu “pandemic”:

*Number of confirmed deaths so far, worldwide: 16 (1 of which is in the US)

*Estimated number of deaths caused by “regular” flu annually in the US alone: 36,000 (per CDC estimate). That averages to about 98 people per day.
*Thus, statistically at least, by the time swine flu killed 16 people worldwide this year, “regular” flu had killed: 11,934 in the US alone. Why isn’t everybody freaking out about that?

*Swine flu is no more contagious than any other flu. You cannot catch it from eating pork. You cannot get it from sitting on a toilet seat. Mainly you get it from being a gross SOB and not washing your hands after playing with livestock.

*Unless you count when somebody sneezes in your face, it’s not an airborne disease. Those stupid surgical masks don’t do anything.

*No, if you got a flu shot a few months ago, it doesn’t work for this strain of flu. However, those who don’t get flu shots, which is the vast majority of people, mostly seem to get along most of the time without causing widespread influenza outbreaks.

*Although the flu we’re used to is pretty fond of taking out senior citizens, the swine flu isn’t interested. Theoretically it’s been stating this may be due to exposure back in the 70’s, but whatever. Generally it seems to like young adults who tend to have pretty good immune systems. Who would thus be pretty good at fighting it off.

Basically it boils down to this: It’s not a pandemic, it’s not super-duper lethal, and you can avoid catching it by just washing your damned hands once in a while. Oh, and the public at large is retarded. But, we knew that, I suppose.
